OpenAI's Project Strawberry: A Smarter ChatGPT Could Be Here Soon

Project Strawberry, OpenAI's upcoming AI model, is reportedly on track to launch within the next two weeks, potentially ahead of the much-anticipated iPhone 16 release on September 20. Initially scheduled for a fall release, the AI model focuses on reasoning and advanced problem-solving, promising to take ChatGPT to a new level of intelligence.

According to sources, Project Strawberry may be offered as a standalone service at first, but its integration into ChatGPT remains unclear. Testers suggest it could be part of a dropdown menu allowing users to select different AI models, with Strawberry specializing in more detailed, thoughtful responses. However, it will only support text input/output at launch, lacking the multimodal capabilities seen in some of OpenAI’s other models, such as those that handle both text and images.

Early reports also indicate that the new AI will excel at tasks that challenge current models, particularly in logic puzzles and mathematical reasoning. Pricing is expected to differ from ChatGPT’s existing models, potentially including rate limits or a higher-priced tier for faster responses.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, hinted at the impending release in a cryptic post on X (formerly Twitter), fueling speculation about how this new model might shape the future of AI tools. While it’s still uncertain if Project Strawberry will be part of GPT-5, its early release could signal OpenAI's eagerness to push boundaries in AI development.

We should know more soon, as this powerful AI tool could be available before the end of September.

Amazon AWS Commits £8 Billion to Expand Cloud and AI Infrastructure in the U.K.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced a significant investment of £8 billion ($10.45 billion) to enhance its cloud and AI infrastructure in the U.K. over the next five years. This major investment aims to expand AWS's data centers in the country and support the growing demand for cloud computing and AI technologies among U.K. businesses. The expansion aligns with the increasing integration of generative AI and other advanced cloud technologies across industries.

Tanuja Randery, AWS's managing director for the European, Middle Eastern, and African regions, emphasized that generative AI represents a transformative force, comparable to the internet and cloud technology itself. The investment is expected to help British businesses harness the power of cloud computing and AI, boosting productivity, global competitiveness, and revenue growth.

AWS's competitors in the U.K. include Microsoft and Google, all of whom are heavily investing in cloud infrastructure across Europe. In addition to its U.K. investment, AWS plans to spend 8.8 billion euros on its cloud infrastructure in Germany.

However, this expansion occurs at a time when AWS and Microsoft face increased regulatory scrutiny from the U.K.'s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which is investigating competition within the cloud market. Randery noted that AWS is cooperating constructively with regulators, advocating for regulations that promote innovation while addressing competitive concerns.
